This first Northern California spirulina farm began in 2016 in Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco, inside a large commercial glass greenhouse once used for flowers. Producing an all-natural product in a controlled environment, using no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. With a Certified Producer Certificate for the CA Farmers Market Program, product is sold in farmers markets and select natural food stores in the SF Bay Area, direct to customers locally and online.
Smart Microfarm near Olympia Washington
As one of the northern most spirulina farms, this greenhouse facility demonstrated the capability of algae microfarms in cooler climates. Two ponds have insulating foam panels below and retractable cover above, all within a larger vegetable greenhouse to help keep algae culture water warm, increase productivity and extend the growing season beyond the summer months. This smart microfarm was monitored remotely by webcam and the daily data sent from the local operator.

June Pharmaceuticals is one of the world’s largest producers of spirulina from both natural lakes and production ponds. The company produces about 200 tons of spirulina per year and offers a variety of healthy innovative products including dietary food supplements, beverages, extracts, cosmetics, personal care products, herbal products, biofertilizer and spirulina beer.
