A Mini-Colloque for Artisanal Spirulina Production was held at Mialet, South of France, June 26-28, 2002, hosted by Jean-Paul Jourdan. About 50 spirulina growers, researchers and supporters came from Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe to share their latest work growing spirulina on a small, or artisanal, scale.

A field trip to Spirulina La Capitelle, Philippe and Estelle Calamand's greenhouse farm, showed conference participants actual small scale production. This visit was followed by a picnic in a local park featuring spirulina appetizers.

A conversation with Spirulina Pioneer Hubert Durand-Chastel, Director of the world's first commercial spirulina farm, Sosa Texcoco in Mexico in the 1970s, and a Senateur of France representing French people living abroad.
